It is part of being human to get into a funk. Or in a bad mood feel burnt out, stressed, and just over it. Sadly there is no remedy to never have to go through that. However, there are a few things you can do to shake that feeling and get back to a more positive you.

Now its time for science. Serotonin is a chemical release that allows us to feel calm. So when you are in a funk, stressed out, triggered usually by being around toxic energy, or overwhelming work environment the solution is to get a serotonin boost.

How to get a serotonin boost:

One of the easiest ways is simply by reminiscing on old memories. Think of a happy vacation you took or the last time you accomplished something truly amazing. Scroll through old pictures on your phone. This serotonin boost will give you a calming feeling. You will begin to feel your breath slow down and this thought of “everything will be okay”.

Another chemical reaction useful for stress relief and getting out of a funk? Oxytocin. Oxytocin is the feeling of love.

How to get a Oxytocin boost:

Now if you are single not to worry there is still a way to achieve this chemical reaction. Simply tap into your close network. Call a friend, ask for a hug, speak to someone you know can give you a laugh. This will release oxytocin. When this happens it makes you feel loved and connected.

Another great chemical release is endorphins. When endorphins are extremely important to quell and slow down your anxiety. It is your body’s way of fighting off negative feelings.

How to get a Oxytocin boost:

One way is working out, another one is eating snacks like chocolate and chili pepper.
