For lots of people when they think of self-care they imagine a group of girls getting together for a sleepover and putting on face masks and doing their nails. And although certain elements of that image may be true. Self-care is actually a very important thing for anyone, any gender. It can have a huge impact on your emotional, physical, and even mental health. 

So how do you begin creating a self-care routine?

Firstly, although we all live busy lives and it may be necessary to schedule some time to try not to put too much pressure on it. It can take the fun and relaxing element out of self-care time which is the whole point. Make sure you are in the mood for it and be okay with rescheduling time with yourself if you’re not really in the mental place to be able to unwind and relax. 

Once you have scheduled your time and ready to commit to it, try to focus on staying present in the moment. The means focusing that when you are doing your activity and your mind begins to wander, you do what you can to bring the focus back. This will also strengthen your ability to practice mindfulness and can help in various other aspects of life.

  • Going for a walk outside
  • Journaling or drawing
  • Dance class/ workout class
  • Meditation

These are just a few but essentially it is a hobby that is solely for you. To spend time with yourself.
